Starter Waveforms

 

Causes of Premature Starter Failure
  • Water Intrusion is Cause #1
    • From Engine (Leaking exhaust manifolds, gaskets, etc)
  • Oil Leak
  • Overheating
    • Slow Cranking
      • Low Voltage at the starter B+ terminal
        • Excessive current flow kills the starter. Low  voltage results in lower starter rpm which increases current
        • 📝 Starter and low voltage
    • Prolonged cranking
    • ‘S’ terminal is hanged on B+
      • Ignition Switch
  • High engine vibration
